Particleboard and Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) are formed by breaking down real wood residuals into wood fibers and glued back together with special resin by applying high temperature and pressure.

In this article, you find out the differences between the Particleboard and Medium Density Fibreboard and take a look at their finer points in the process.

Particle BoardMDF
Particleboard has less density of 650-700 Kg/m3. MDF has a density of 750-800 Kg/m3. It weighs 10-15% more than a particleboard and is hence stronger.
Used for making readymade furniture. Used for making customized requirements such as for making wardrobe doors and for the shutters of kitchen cabinets.
Particle boards are much weaker in strength compared to MDF. Weaker compared to plywood, yet these are better than particle boards.
Economic compared to MDF boards. MDF boards are stronger and hence costlier.
When a particleboard is soaked into the water, it is probable that it will lose its characteristics in a short time. MDF outperforms particle board because it is water resistant.
The Indian Standards quality specification for Particle boards is given in document IS:3087 and IS:12823 The Indian Standards quality specification for MDF is prescribed in document IS:12406 and IS:14857
Particle boards are very light in weight. MDF boards are heavier in weight than particle boards.
