Proper storage precautions should be undertaken before you store cement bags as cement starts reacting to form hard lumps when they come in contact with water or moisture in the air which results in monetary losses to the owner. Following precautions would help in preventing such monetary losses.
Though you get discounts on bulk purchases, it is advisable to buy cement for 2 or 3 weeks requirement as stored cement loses its strength if they are stored for more than 3 months.
Cement shed should not have windows or ventilators. Cement should be stored on a raised platform with a minimum of 300 mm Height from the floor level. Cement should be laid on polythene sheets or dry Wooden Planks. Cement stacked should not touch the walls of the shed. Shed roofs should be thoroughly inspected for any leaks before you store cement. Cement shed should be closed when not in use.
Follow First In First Out inventory method to use the first batch cement before using the latest batch cement.
Cement bags should be laid alternatively with one layer width wise and another layer lengthwise for good pile strength.
